Celebrating 75 Years Of Compassionate Care

This summer Sonoma Valley Hospital is celebrating its 75th anniversary. You may have seen Bill Lynch’s wonderful article in the Sonoma Index-Tribune yesterday which recaps the hospital’s history. We’re delighted that Bill gives as much attention to the hospital’s present and future as to its past, emphasizing the important role SVH continues to play in our community.

Bill’s article is a reminder that SVH continues to be unique among small hospitals, from being the state’s first designated community hospital to recent efforts to transform itself for the future and redefine what it means to be a community hospital during a period of great changes in healthcare.

Throughout its history, SVH has maintained a focus on providing our community with excellent care, and that commitment has driven efforts to modernize the hospital, from meeting new seismic standards and building a state-of-the-art ED and Surgery Center, to current efforts to create a modern Outpatient Diagnostic Center as well as provide greater access to specialists through our growing relationship with UCSF Health.

We’re proud that our community is able to obtain 80 percent of the healthcare services it needs right here at home, and the care is equal to that provided by much larger hospitals.

Much of the credit for this goes to the hospital’s strong community support over the years, including the parcel tax that ensures we can continue to provide excellent emergency services. Credit also goes to the many generous donors who have supported hospital expansion and capital purchases, such as our new 3D Mammography, CT and MRI technology.

But a hospital is much more than a building with modern technology, it’s people who take pride in the care they provide, and this is where we excel. Our outstanding physicians, nurses and staff make the difference at SVH, and they are truly our biggest asset in providing high quality, compassionate care that treats patients like family.

Bill believes our hospital is among the best community hospitals in the country, and we agree. If you haven’t seen Bill’s article, you can access it here.

Thank you, Sonoma Valley, for your support over 75 wonderful years.

Here’s to the next 75!

In good health,

Kelly Mather
