Sonoma Valley Hospital's state-of-the-art CT Scan

Sonoma Valley Hospital offers advanced imaging services to enhance preventive care and diagnostic services for our community.  We also offer diagnostic imaging for women including 3D digital Mammography. Our special program, Project Pink, offers no-cost mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women in our community.

OUR SERVICES INCLUDE:

Bone Density Scans (DEXA): Measures bone mineral density to uncover skeletal abnormalities or bone issues. Regular screenings can diagnose osteoporosis, fracture risk, and vertebral fractures.   Preparation Instructions (PDF)  Cómo prepararse (PDF)

Computerized Tomography (CT Scan): The CT scanner is an important diagnostic tool in the modern hospitals and Emergency Departments of today. A state-of-the-art 128-slice CT scanner such as the one Sonoma Valley Hospital has acquired for its Outpatient Diagnostic Center opening this August (2022) is critical in providing high quality patient care. A computerized tomography (CT) scan combines a series of X-ray images of the body taken from different angles. These cross-sectional images (slices) may be used to create three-dimensional images enabling physicians to visualize and diagnose the health of the body’s internal components. CT scans can detect bone and joint problems, like complex bone fractures, and help physicians track changes in conditions such as cancer, heart disease, emphysema, tumors, and liver masses. It can also identify internal injuries and bleeding that occur from strokes or injuries caused by a car accident or other forms of trauma. The images provided by a CT scan provide more detailed information than do regular X-rays. A modern 128-slice CT scan provides even greater detailed imaging assuring accurate scans. The term “slice” refers to the number of simultaneous cross-sectional images acquired by the rows of detectors in a CT. In addition to providing higher quality scans, a modern CT provides patients with a more comfortable experience with faster scans and shorter examination times. In emergency situations, where speed is vital in helping save a patient’s life, a CT scan is used to find internal injuries quickly.

General X-Ray: X-rays are a type of electromagnetic radiation, just like visible light.  An x-ray machine sends individual x-ray particles in small amounts through the body that allow a doctor to see inside the body.

Mammography Screenings: Recommended annually for all women ages 40+, as well as men and women with strong family histories of breast or ovarian cancer. Sonoma Valley Hospital utilizes state-of-art 2D and 3D digital screening and diagnostic mammography technology to detect changes in the breast tissue appearances, at the Gold standard accredited by the ACR and MQSA.  3D digital mammography has been shown to increase detection of invasive breast cancer and reduce call backs for additional testing.  (See also PROJECT PINK)  Preparation Instructions (PDF)   Cómo prepararse (PDF)

PROJECT PINK (No-Cost Mammograms)
SVH offers no-cost mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women who live or work in the Sonoma Valleys through “Project Pink”, a program funded by the Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation. Following is information about this program:

Nuclear Medicine:  A method that uses radioactive substances to create pictures of areas inside the body.  At Sonoma Valley Hospital, the myocardial stress tests, ordered by your cardiologist, are provided twice a month.

Ultrasound Imaging: Non-invasive and radiation-free, ultrasound imaging is an effective diagnostic and monitoring tool. May be used for gynecological, pediatric, pregnancy, intra-operative, and organ transplantation imaging.
