UCSF Health and SVH Affiliation – An Exciting First Year

by | Nov 27, 2018 | From the CEO

SVH CEO Kelly Mather and UCSF Health CEO Mark Laret report on progress made in the first  year of the affiliation

The relationship between Sonoma Valley Hospital and UCSF Health is rooted in a shared vision to revitalize the way healthcare is delivered at the community level. We want to share with the Sonoma Valley community highlights from our first year of working together, as well as some of the new plans that are underway.

  • UCSF Health is excited for and supportive of the SVH Outpatient Diagnostic Center, a vitally important initiative for SVH’s future that is being made possible by philanthropy to our hospital. Currently in the design stage, this facility will bring 21st century diagnostic services to Sonoma Valley and serve as a diagnostic center for UCSF Health patients throughout the North Bay, so you will be able to access UCSF-supported care right here near your home.
  • SVH has a new Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sabrina Kidd, who also was appointed the SVH UCSF Medical Director, facilitating planning and communications between the two organizations. Dr. Kidd reports to UCSF Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Adrienne Green.  One of her first accomplishments was to align SVH’s quality metrics with UCSF Health’s so we share the same high standards of care. This is the first step in SVH achieving its goal to move from a Medicare 4 Star to a 5 Star-ranked hospital, which fewer than one in 10 hospitals nationwide achieve.
  • SVH now has growing access to UCSF Health’s world-class expertise through telemedicine in a highly cost-effective way. The hospital’s Emergency Department recently added telemedicine services through UCSF’s renowned neurology program to help our physicians in assessing complex neurology problems. SVH will continue to add more UCSF telemedicine services in the coming year.
  • SVH is part of the Canopy Health network, founded by UCSF Health and John Muir Health, enabling our patients to gain access to a growing Accountable Care Network that provides in-network health coverage to participants through approximately 6,000 doctors, 18 hospitals, and numerous care centers within the Canopy Health alliance.

These first steps begin to show how a small community hospital can reinvent itself to play a vital role in providing excellent local care by forging a partnership with an academic medical system with deep expertise and broad resources. We believe this is the future of community healthcare and we’re proud to be making it happen here in Sonoma Valley.

We will continue to keep you apprised of developments as our relationship deepens and strengthens in the year ahead.

Sincerely,

Kelly Mather, CEO, Sonoma Valley Hospital

Mark Laret, President and CEO, UCSF Health
